ProPublica is hiring a community editor who can grow and actively engage our social audience. This editor will be an ambassador for our newsroom across the social web, meeting readers where they are and creating opportunities for participation in and around our major investigations.
This editor will lead the daily production and curation of our branded social accounts; help craft packages and campaigns to engage audiences in ProPublica’s journalism; and moderate and lead conversations with our readers with a credible and conversational voice.
You are a great fit for this position if you are passionate about the news and fluent in the conversational currents of various social networks (bonus points for taking us beyond Facebook and Twitter). You’re also an avid follower of social tools and trends who is able to test and articulate best practices that advance our social and community goals across the newsroom.
This job requires:
Journalism experience, including published reporting and/or blogging
Solid news judgement and experience verifying online content
A track record of building audience through social networks
Demonstrated experience using social analytics to guide strategy
Working knowledge of HTML and basically, the Internet
Strong ability to multitask and juggle deadlines
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Design, development and/or multimedia skills are a major plus
The social and community editor will be a part of ProPublica’s engagement team, reporting to the senior engagement editor and working closely with editors, reporters and others across the newsroom.
